What is Eucalyptus Oil?

This oil comes from selected eucalyptus tree species, and the oil is often referred to as fever tree or gum tree and is widely used for its many medicinal properties. What once was used to help alleviate pain is now more commonly used to make healing ointments, add to perfumes, and make rubs and cleaning products.

The Benefits of Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus oil helps to stimulate the immune system and improve your respiratory circulation. It can also work as an anti-inflammatory and can help when you find it hard to breathe or sleep.  It is also great for your skin due to its many antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. It can help with skin irritation, wound healing, and can also help soothe and treat burns and insect bites. It also has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties which also helps with a bunch of different skin conditions. It has traditionally been used as a healing skin ointment for these reasons.

How to Use Eucalyptus Oil

Due to its many benefits, there are several ways you can use this oil effectively dependent on why you are using it in the first place. If you have itchy insect bites you need relief from, you can apply three drops of eucalyptus oil to a cotton ball and apply it directly to the bite up to three times per day. You can do the same to help with any skin irritation you may be experiencing as well.  To help boost your immune system, you can diffuse five drops of the oil in a diffuser. Doing so can also help relieve a sore throat or headache.  It is important to remember, however, that you should test a small area of your skin before use to make sure there is no allergic reaction or other adverse reaction to the oil. The oil should also never be used on a child unless it is appropriately diluted with a carrier oil like coconut oil prior to use.   Meta: Eucalyptus oil has many benefits for the body and your health and can be used in a variety of ways including topically and in a diffuser for aromatherapy.
